D-Day: 69th Anniversary

"June 6, 1944, 160,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified French coastline to fight Nazi Germany on the beaches of Normandy, France. General Dwight D. Eisenhower called the operation a crusade in which “we will accept nothing less than full victory.” More than 5,000 Ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion, and by day’s end on June 6, the Allies gained a foot- hold in Normandy. The D-Day cost was high -more than 9,000 Allied Soldiers were killed or wounded -- but more than 100,000 Soldiers began the march across Europe to defeat Hitler". (US Army D-Day Website)

Today as I ran my 2.5 miles I could not help but think of those men who came off of the back of those "Higgins boats", trudged through the water and stormed the beach.  I can not help but think of the Rangers that scaled Pointe du Hoc to seize the German artillery in order to save their fellow brothers.  These are the men that paved the way for my husband to serve in the Army's premiere light Infantry unit, the 75th Ranger Regiment, these are also the men that were first to insure that I am able to run free today!  Today as you run, take a moment if you will, to remember these true heroes!
